Pandemonium; FF2 - ages before the canonical game

Pandemonium

Note: I don't own the rights to FF in any way. It is solely my interpretation of what happened in Deumion's time before he was entrusted the guard of the Destroy spell.

Chapter 1: Prelude

Ages have past since war last broke out. When looking for items that would help the Kingdoms of Fynn and Kashuan win against the Empire of Palamecia, Firion and his friends, Maria, Guy and Leon have reached a level thought unknown in the Arcane Labyrinth. They only said "Jade Passage" to a door and they suddenly got transported into Perseria, which was then the village nearest to the entrance to Jade Passage at the time of its incorporation. Said village looks very much like Mysidia at the era where they came from.

Firion tries to move and one of the soldiers garrisoned in the village tells him, "The enemy forces have begun their attack on the village!" As the soldier shouts this, the denizens (citizens!) of the village start running around in panic. The skies turn red... the foursome from another era walks around to find a blond-haired woman who complained that she lost her son. Firion asks the woman, "Can you give a description of your son?"

To which the woman answers, "He has silver spiked hair, a blue bandanna as well." The party splits in order to look for him and to return to the house of his mother. Said woman, in the meantime, hid herself in the basement. Leon went to the north-east, Maria to the north-west, Firion to the south-west and Guy to the south-east. All they see are houses, soldiers, enemy monsters/troops, and civilians running around, none of which matches the description the woman gave to the group. Until Leon finds a boy who matches the description given and, unlike all other civilians, he wasn't scrambling around.

Leon tells the boy, "Your mother was worried about you! It's time you returned home!" But during the time the party searched for him, the boy's mother got out of the house. She comes to Leon (and the other ones in Firion's party who came back to him) to collect her son. Leon asks the boy, "What's your name?" The boy gives his name as Deumion.

The woman scolds Deumion, "I was so worried about you!" The party moves away from the duet and, before they vanish... Deumion turns to the party, "Thank you! One last thing..."

Maria asks Deumion, "What is it?"

Deumion advises the party, "Hold on to your hope..." At this very moment, the foursome from the "future" vanish from the village and return into the Labyrinth.

What is denizens? I think you mean citizens possibly?

The way you set up your dialogue would be the format used for scripts. But here, you're not writing a script, so you want to try and use quotations. It isn't that big of a deal, since this is a fanfiction, and appears to be a one-shot too.

I really like the piece of advice Deumion gave the party. It's a good way to end it. Good job :)

A few details about this:

It's incomplete; expect more parts to come out here as I write them. Plus, there are some details I chose to work on, especially the 20th anniversary edition of FF2 for the PSP. Expect the following:

1. Four more appearances for the final party from the canonical game (Firion, Maria, Guy and Leon) in order:

1.1. Firion and friends come in a cave which is the site of a battle between World Alliance and Pandemonian forces with a detail of Hell soldiers entrenched in a cave which splits into a cave, with Deumion at the end

1.2. While the World Alliance army leads the siege of Pandemonium, Firion will appear in the royal palace of Fynn with the leaders of the World Alliance, which talk about a last-ditch attempt to win against Hell.

1.3. The party will try to beat the soldiers to Deumion in his (rebuilt!) hometown to obtain the Light of Hope

There could be two possible endings (you choose) but both of them involve the party from the canonical game. (In the PSP version of the game, you cannot have both Revive and Destroy)

1.4.1. The canonical party will give the Light of Hope to Deumion

OR

1.4.2. The canonical party will fight Deumion instead

I edited the first part using quotation marks and also explaining what denizens meant in the context of the text.

The first sounds better to me.

In the canonical game, this choice can be made when one go through all of the Arcane Labyrinth levels pertaining to Deumion's life. In order:

- Oblivion, which is the object of chapter 1 of this fanfic
- Hope, the object of another chapter (which is the battle in the cave)
- Destruction, the object of yet another chapter, where the actual Destroy spell is woven and where the very idea of Deumion as the vector of the seal hatches
- Guardian, where you must beat the guards in the search for him and, if you do, you get the Light of Hope

But, at this stage, you have to choose between:

- Giving Deumion the Light of Hope (end result: you get the Revive spell but you cannot lay claim to the Destroy spell and still continue to claim the unique weapons)
- Fighting Deumion to the death (end result: you get the Destroy spell if you're victorious but you cannot lay claim to the Revive spell or claim more unique weapons)
